Open Office

Written by Eric H. Doss on Apr 17th, 2008 | Filed under: Uncategorized

Open Office is a desktop productivity suite that is very similar to Microsoft Office.  The biggest difference between the two products is that Open Office is free to download and use, while MS Office requires the purchase of licenses for each computer.

Open Office is capable of creating, editing and saving documents in MS Office format, so if you use this product you will be able to send usable documents to others who use MS Office.  You can also choose to save the files in Open Office format, which is not readable by MS Office programs.

Google Documents, available in Google Apps for your Domain, also allows you to export and import documents in Open Office format.
